And so it goes–The Planet Wrecking Project continues…

Indeed, as a species, I think we’re stuck and tripped up by denial — trying to tell a story about the bigger picture when the green fashionista movement has undermined the science is proving daunting these days. Not to mention, we are so entrenched in the now, that in general, most have difficulty seeing the bigger picture. We need to find a way to achieve a steady-state economy, produce low-carbon electricity with renewable energy resources, and downsize back to a land-based economy. Therein lies the big question–how to create an appetite for this transition that the public will bite? It is the age of consumerism, after all…

Make it cool. Make it sexy.

Again, I was recently in another discussion, rehashing why solar water is not widely adopted (especially in the USA) versus PV. After I posed the idea to embrace the right-brained visual marketing mavens, the brainstorming commenced and resulted in The Cool x Code. C^2. Short, simple, easy to understand. Greg Chick offered up this explanation:

A Code Requirement to get a permit to build would go a long way. ‘Cool’ to be Solar is a great way too, let’s mix them… Developers get Fee reductions for ‘Green’ housing tracts…all it takes is a Code! to make it cool! This is a free market approach with incentive to builders and ‘Cool’ to buyers. Someone could say ‘We chose to buy into the Eco tract’ ‘We live in Green Acres’ you build the Solar and other into the whole product give the people the option with out getting into this ROI crap. People do this all the time with buying the sport package on a car, financed into the Base Car Price! There is no ROI on a Sport Package, and they sell like hot cakes…just look at car logos as you drive on the road. Turbo S, etc. Image works. Both comments are right above. Make it Cool and Code…
